Differences Between Refrigerated Meat, Deli, and Fish Cases

Differences Between Refrigerated Meat, Deli, and Fish Cases

To the average person, commercial, refrigerated display cases may all look the same. So how do you decide what is right for you and your store? As a store owner, you may know what you need in order to keep your products fresh, but the variety in which display cases are available might surprise you.

From the outside, refrigerated display cases have similar features. The most noticeable difference is the display glass. This feature typically comes in two standard varieties. Curved glass, which is more expensive, and straight glass. While this is a primarily aesthetic decision, the type of display case for your products is a little more particular. Let’s take a look.

Refrigerated fish display cases are specific in terms of design for this particular type of food. Fish requires special handling and these display cases are designed to present a variety of fish and seafood products while keeping them fresh. Fish display cases have a primary deck produced with stainless steel. This provides an open area to display your fish and seafood that can also maintain temperature for an extended period of time. This type of case is an excellent choice for poultry display as well.

Deli cases differ from fish displays in that they blow air directly onto the product. Deli cases are primarily used for sliced meats, cheese, salads, and prepared sandwiches. As long as it belongs in your deli case, it will stay fresh. Storage is one inviting feature specific to deli cases. Most cases offer double duty glass doors on top, where meats and other items are access through the back end of the glass display, and another set of doors underneath for refrigerated storage.
Fresh meat cases are designed for products that require humidity and low velocity. Meat cases feature two gravity coils to help regulate the temperature inside the cases. Coils are placed at the bottom and top of the unit for maximum usage.

One of the most efficient features of these types of units is that each has its own end. This allows them to be lined up for display purposes while still maintaining their specific temperature and cooling needs. This is often seen in grocery stores where meats and fish are displayed at the butcher. Don’t be fooled though, meats and fish are in completely separate cases.

As a store owner, it is important to consider how you want your display cases designed. Thoughtful placement will not only maximize space but also continue to keep your products fresh. The Bush Refrigeration team has years of experience creating refrigerated display cases that suit the needs of all of our customers.
